Personal Brand is now something that every person who is serious about their career needs to investigate in and INVEST some time on
The official definition according to Wikipedia
“Personal branding is the conscious and intentional effort to create and influence public perception of an individual by positioning them as an authority in their industry, elevating their credibility, and differentiating themselves from the competition, to ultimately advance their career, increase their circle of influence and have a larger impact”
In short, becoming a Thought Leader or Influencer (and just in case…)
An Influencer-An individual who has the power to affect the decisions of others because of their authority, knowledge, position, or relationship with their audience.
When we are talking about BRAND and trust, generally this is related to buying and selling products. When we have trust in a brand we buy more of it. Companies make money.
What does this have to do with you, and your career? Your brand is your value, your value translates into, you the product solving problems for your customers aka companies you want to hire you, appoint to their boards, and speak at their conferences.
Your ongoing professional projects, actions, solutions, and personal themes when projected into the digital space, create a relationship, a trust. This trust, is your reputation, your brand.
Creating a personal brand can give you a greater ability to influence leaders in your industry, or as a leader to attract the team you need to accomplish your goals
Back to our definition “ the conscious and intentional effort” It’s about showing up to inspire, educate, motivate, entertain. Being an Influencer is being authentic, concentrating on your values, and creating a connection. Your brand, your story, your value ALL need to be organized and projected for the maximum benefit of your career goals-
Your thought leadership themes help to provide consistency of your brand, establish relationships, and develop YOUR INFLUENCE.
So now you know! What a personal brand is in a nutshell, as the saying goes…
WHY is this important? A decade ago, probably not as much as now, but think of the CEO or founder of a company you admire and chances are you know a bit about them. According to Altimeter Group and LinkedIn, social engagement makes companies 58% more likely to attract better employees, and that’s just one reason, they are many.

How does one go about this? Getting started may seem daunting & uncomfortable, however getting started can be simple, and you can start slowly. Important to note, 2 things, 1-one can’t just start posting any old content, its important to be clear and consistent with your messages, 2-Ultimately, this is based on your work/life philosophies and process, so you may be able to attract followers with posts, holding their attention may need some deeper strategy.
